~+~+~ This is a portal to the world of the Nagas of Nagaland ~+~+~

Occupied by hill-tribes collectively called the Nagas, Nagaland lies in the remote north-east region of India. A land of blue hills and valleys, Nagaland is a place known for its scenic beauty, inhabited by colourful tribes. The Nagas comprise of 16 different tribes, each with their own culture and tradition. Christianity is the dominant religion here. In fact, it is the most Baptist state in the world. Virtually unknown and untouched for decades, Nagaland is beginning to blossom as a tourist destination of the century. The present-day Nagas, whose ancestors were head-hunters, are rising up to face the challenges of the world. This web site presents a brief information about the Naga people, the different tribes, culture and lifestyle.
So, come in - explore my world. There is something new to be learnt everyday. Who knows - you might find the knowledge useful someday. You are most welcome to participate in the forums.

Computers AUG 12 : A training of staff (PS/Steno/UDA/LDA) attached to Senior Officers (Chief Secretary / Addl. Chief Secretary / Principal Secretary / Commission & Secretary / Secretary) was conducted by the Department of Information Technology & Technical Education in the training Hall of National Informatics Centre (NIC). Staff of 14 Government departments participated in the training and it included Home Department, Planning & Coordination, Finance, Social Welfare, Women Development, Veterinary & Animal Husbandary, Youth Resource & Sports, Science & Technology, ITTE, Rural Development, Tourism, Art & Culture, Horticulture and Information & Public Relations. Guitar Contest to be Held at Dimapur

Music - Strum AUG 11 : A Zakk Wylde Ebiphone guitar contest will be held on 23rd August 2008 at Café Destination, Opposite Post Office, Super Market, Dimapur. Informing this during a press conference on 7th July 2008 at Dream Café, Sers Bazaar, Kohima, Theja Meru said that the Gibson guitar chord, in collaboration with Rattle & Hum Music Society will organise the Zakk Wylde Ebiphone guitar contest. He also displayed the Zakk Wylde Ebiphone guitar which will be the prize for the guitar contest. He said that Henna Kripani Entertainment Relations India has donated Gibson guitars, namely American Guitar Zakk Wylde. The contest will be held annually, he said. (contd...)

Doyang River Benefits Fishing Community

News - 3 AUG 7 : Doyang River which has high capacity of water impounded in the dam generates electricity for the people and supports the farmers means of living through fishing activities besides serving as a safe haven for propagation of many fish species.
A year ago, the Fishery Department released 2 million fish seeds in the Doyang river and presently the people of Wokha district are enjoying the benefits, achieving sustainable fish production for sustainable economic growth. The villagers of Changsu Old and New, Pangti, and neighbouring villages, after sacrificing their terrace cultivation land for electric supply to the state are generating more income by selling fishes to different places at Rupees 80 per k.g. Nagaland Finance Commission Constituted

News - 3 AUG 5 : Nagaland Government has constituted the First Nagaland State Finance Commission to work out principles for governing the distribution of resources between the State Government and the municipalities of the net proceeds of taxes, duties, tolls and fees leviable by the state.
The 4 member Commission will be headed by Justice (Retired) Zelre Angami and the tenure of the Commission will be for a period of 12 months i.e. upto 31st July 2009. Other members are L.T. Konyak NCS (retired), R.O. Ovung, Retired Commissioner, Taxes and Commissioner & Secretary Urban Development as Member Secretary. (contd...)

NSSA Pen Down Strike

News - 3 JUL 24 : The Nagaland Secretariat Service Association is on Pen Down Strike from today for an indefinite period in protest against the regularization of casual LDAs in the Secretariat Service.
President NSSA H. Lungalang has stated that the government had conducted suitability test to the casual LDA employees out of which 49 could qualify. The Association had agreed in principle by sacrificing the post with certain conditions to be fulfilled by the government, and the MoU is being awaited to be signed between government and NSSA to this effect. News - 3 JUL 24 : Everyday, there is chaos in Kohima town along the main thoroughfare route, entailing traffic jams, from morning till evening. Unless some streamlining measures are implemented now, the situation could get worse. Everything and everybody emerges and converges onto the only main road, for moving from one part to another, for fetching one essential or the other. ‘All business lead to this road, all movements lead to this road, all requirements lead to this road’. His Excellency SC Jamir Formally Leaves Goa; Takes Over Maharashtra

News - 3 JUL 15 : His Excellency SC Jamir, Governor of Goa inspected a Guard of Honour by the Goa Police this evening at the lawns of the Raj Bhawan. His Excellency will be leaving for Mumbai tomorrow morning to take over as the new Governor of India's second largest State Maharashtra and is scheduled to be sworn in to the gubernatorial office on July 21. He was earlier sworn in to the office on March 8, 2008 when former Governor SM Krishna left the office to join active politics. (contd...)

News - 3 JUL 15 : Security co-ordination meeting was held this afternoon in the office chamber of the Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Sachopra Vero. The meeting reviewed the law and order situation in and around the State capital and decided that Standard Operation Procedure (SOP), which is in operation, shall continue. Education Grid Link Between IIITM - K & NU

News - 5 JUL 11 : Nagaland University and the Indian Institute of Information Technology and Management - Kerala (IIITM-K) entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in January 2007 to work together on cooperation in technology enhanced education, joint academic programs and work to provide inclusive education to all the residents of Nagaland through a statewide Education Grid, according to Registrar, Nagaland University.
As a sequel to it, the two institutions are being linked through India’s longest terrestrial connection over the Railways Optical Fiber Network. (contd...)
